The Pregnancy Unique-Quantification of Emesis Score, commonly known as the PUQE score, is a clinical calculator used in the assessment of the severity of nausea and vomiting in pregnant women. This scoring system is specifically applicable to pregnant women who are experiencing symptoms of nausea, vomiting, or both, often associated with conditions such as hyperemesis gravidarum.
The PUQE score is clinically useful in monitoring the severity of these symptoms over time, guiding treatment decisions, and evaluating the effectiveness of treatment interventions. It takes into account the duration of nausea, the number of vomiting episodes, and the number of retching episodes in a 12-hour period.
There are no specific exclusion criteria for the use of the PUQE score. However, it may not be applicable or accurate in pregnant women with other conditions that can cause nausea and vomiting, such as gastrointestinal disorders, metabolic disorders, or infections.
